The “Light Angel” is a small LED light that “goes practically anywhere”. The light is pitched by famed sales-guy Anthony Sullivan (parter of the late Billy Mayes) as being “..like a guardian angel for your home that lights up the way for you, your family, and friends.”
Key phrases in this TV commercial that might fool you:
Weather resistant adhesive sticks to practically anything – Weather resistant does not mean “weather proof”. We question how long it will stay “stuck” to practically anything.
Perfect for lighting up a porch or making a pool safer – The image of a small child running in the dark next to a pool is sure to grab your attention, but will it really make the pool safer? Perhaps.
The secret is the technologically advanced motion sensor – Oh, “technologically advanced!”. A motion sensor is a motion sensor. We can find nothing “technologically advanced” about the sensors in the Light Angel.
Your home is far less likely to be broken into with a motion sensor light that’s why we recommend Light Angel to our residents – A guy with a badge says this and he looks like a police officer! Upon close inspection of the uniform and badge, it appears that our official looking “officer” is a simple security guard. And we assume that since he recommends it “to our residents”, he’s probably the security guard at a retirement home or other small community. However it is true, a motion sensor can deter break-ins, don’t be fooled into thinking this is a law-enformement endorsement.
Light Angel’s 7 LED bulbs will stay bright for 100,000 hours – This is almost certainly worded to trick you! The biggest draw back of a stick-on, battery-powered light would be having to change the batteries every few months right? But you only have to change the batteries in the Light Angel every 100,000 hours right? WRONG! “The LED bulbs will stay bright for 100,000 hours” – a true statement since LED bulbs have very long rated lifetimes. This does not mean that the batteries will not drain and need to be replaced after only a few hours of use.
You could spend a fortune on a motion sensor light and you need tools to install it – Yes, you would spend more money on a permanently installed 120vAC powered (real) motion sensor activated light. However, it would probably be far brighter and effective, will almost certainly never fall off the wall because the sticky-tape fails, and you never have to worry about the batteries being dead when you need the light the most. This might be intended to trick you into thinking that the Light Angel is just like a real, permanent motion activated light, but, it’s not.
Get two for $12.99 – PLUS S&H, plus ‘separate fee’ – Would this lead you to believe that it’s only going to be $12.99 out of your pocket to get two Light Angels? Think again! Take note of the small print: “Plus S&H” and “separate fee”. Nowhere is the cost of S&H (Shipping and handling) or “separate fee” disclosed. Be sure to know all the fees and total amount before handing over your credit card information.
