The Rukavinas / Guy with one hand / Guy with one arm
This ad for Swiffer Sweepers and Swiffer Dusters features the Rukavina family showing us how they use the Swiffer products. The Rukavina family is a bi-racial couple and two young children. The dad, Zack Rukavina tells us that helping around the house is difficult because he has only one hand. Zach, originally from Northern California had his hand amputated due to cancer.
Are they actors or a real family?
The Rukavinas, Zack Rukavina, his wife Afi Rukavina (they were married in May, 2013), and two kids, are a real family, however Zak is also an actor. Zack Rukavina has appeared in television shows such as Ultimate Surprises (where he proposed to Afi), Parenthood, and Damages. During the commercial, we see fine print that says “Real people aware their comments may appear in advertising”
What they say:
(Zack Rukavina): When you only have one hand you’re not doing anything as fast as you used to, which is funny because I still do it better than her.
(Afi Rukavina): You know I don’t think I was meant to sweep. It’s a little frustrating, look!
(Zach): I can’t help out as much as I used to.
(Zack and Afi, while trying the Swiffer products): I can extend (the Swiffer Duster) so I don’t have to get on the step-stool. I don’t know how it stays on there (shaking the Duster) it’s like a dirt-magnet just like my kids. This is a danger-zone (sweeping under the refrigerator). That is crazy! (look at how much dirt the Swiffer picked up). Yah, this definitely beats hanging out on a step ladder.
This commercial contains no deceptive wording about the products, however some people may feel that portraying an actor as a ‘real family’, even thought it is his real family is slightly deceptive.
