Wording used and what it means:
Curling irons damage hair: It is true, that if used improperly or carelessly, a curling iron can potentially damage hair. The way this phrase is used in this TV commercial, some people might confuse this to mean that if you use a curling iron, you will damage your hair, which is not necessarily true or correct.
Now you can twirl a head full of curls in seconds with Air Curler: Later on in the commercial we are told that you must put each section of hair to be curled into the Air Curler for approximately 20 seconds. Assuming that an average person with average hair wants to make 10 curls, the Air Curler would have to be used for a total of approximately 2 minutes. Some people might confuse the term “twirl a head full of curls in seconds” to mean it only takes seconds to curl all of your hair using the Air Curler. Based on our math, this does not seem to be the case as 2 minutes is significantly more than “seconds”.
Creates the perfect curl, every time: As there is no data provided to support this statement it should not be considered fact.
For tons of curls, instantly: The word instantly is defined as “At once; immediately”. The Air Curler commercial states that each section of curls takes up to 20 seconds to curl and our math indicates that for a person that wants 10 curls, this would take up to 2 minutes. Based on our math, and the definition of “instantly”, this statement appears to be false.
Air Curler eliminates direct heat so it’s the safer healthier way to style your hair: Although no data is provided to substantiate this claim, it would seem that less heat applied to your hair could be considered safer. The wording “healthier” could be misunderstood by some to apply to general overall health, which does not seem to be the case.
Guarantees beautiful soft, tangle free curls that last all day: The word “guarantee” is defined as “Provide a formal assurance or promise”; however no other information for this ‘guarantee’ is mentioned. It could be considered by some that the Air Curler does what it says, absolutely “guaranteed” would could mislead or deceive many viewers as there is no guarantee.
Double your offer! Get a second Air Curler as a bonus: As the announcer states, you must pay separate processing and handling fees for your bonus Air Curler and this cost can be significant. For more information on bonus products please read our bonus and get one free section.
Two Air Curlers for just $14.99: This could be considered an outright deception by many as some viewers might be led to believe that they can receive their two Air Curlers for $14.99, when in fact, after the separate fees, shipping, and handling for each of the two Air Curlers, the out of pocket cost and expense can be significantly higher.
The Air Curler TV ad makes a few unsubstantiated claims of “perfect” or “guaranteed” curls, and also makes deceptive use of the word “instant”. The most potentially misleading claim is related to getting “two Air Curlers for just $14.99”.
