On the commercial for the Kansas City Railroad Pocket Watch, they make the claim that the watch has no batteries and has moving Springs and Cogs. After taking apart the Kansas City Railroad Pocketwatch that I purchased, I feel that this claim is a 100% LIE.
UPDATE: Upon closer examination, there appear to be two different Kansas City Railroad watches sharing the same name. If you want the one in the commercial, don’t buy one that says “New and Improved Quartz Movement – Never Needs Winding!” on the package. It is the “New and improved quartz movement” version shown in the photos below
After disassembling this watch I found that it is battery powered and has no parts internally that could possibly move like shown in commercial. Even the instructions claim you can wind the watch and yet there is a 377/SR626SW Button Cell Battery inside. As a reminder, the TV commercial states:
accurate battery free performance day and night
I may have misunderstood the commercials though I have listened to the one on their website 3 times and still believe they claim the watch is a windup watch with moving springs and cogs that can be seen through the front and back plastic windows moving.
I was not expecting a Rolex or a high-quality timepiece but I was expecting the watch to have moving springs, cogs and gears as the commercial claims. As you can see in pictures below the springs and cogs are just a facade stuck on to a plastic tape-like part.
