Newcastle Brown Ale: Keyshawn Johnson’s Almost A Super Bowl Commercial
In this commercial for Newcastle Brown Ale, Keyshawn Johnson gives us a behind the scenes peek at what could have been Newcastle’s Super Bowl commercial. The Super Bowl Commercial that “wasn’t”.
Behind the scenes of THE MEGA HUGE FOOTBALL GAME AD Newcastle Brown Ale Almost made:
(Keyshawn Johnson): The script was really long. It was like 8 pages long. They wanted me to be the voice of a CGI skateboard cat and I showed up between a shark conga line in a choreographed dance, that had so much power it would kill the robot. But it turns out that Newcastle didn’t even have the money to make the game-day ad.
(Holding up pictures from the story-board): Now this is cool. Got a couple of cats, skateboards. I mean, nobody has ever seen anything like this. Hopefully this would be me right here (pointing to the cat wearing sunglasses, in the middle) with the voiceover. Homeboys hanging. A little diversity. Now.. Pigs. That’s not cool. It’s disgusting. (Showing story board with Keyshawn holding fat-stacks of money) And why would they even draw this up? What does this have to do with the commercial?
You know it’s decisions like this, I think, that made this project go south. Bad decisions, bad management, bad Newcastle.

This brand-recognition commercial pokes fun at Super Bowl commercials and pokes fun at itself and is one of the best Super Bowl teaser ads we’ve seen – but Newcastle won’t even have a commercial during the game!
