The “Light Angel” is a small LED light that “goes practically anywhere”. The light is pitched by famed sales-guy Anthony Sullivan (parter of the late Billy Mayes) as being “..like a guardian angel for your home that lights up the way for you, your family, and friends.”
Key phrases in this TV commercial that might fool you:
Weather resistant adhesive sticks to practically anything – Weather resistant does not mean “weather proof”. We question how long it will stay “stuck” to practically anything.
Perfect for lighting up a porch or making a pool safer – The image of a small child running in the dark next to a pool is sure to grab your attention, but will it really make the pool safer? Perhaps.
The secret is the technologically advanced motion sensor – Oh, “technologically advanced!”. A motion sensor is a motion sensor. We can find nothing “technologically advanced” about the sensors in the Light Angel.
Your home is far less likely to be broken into with a motion sensor light that’s why we recommend Light Angel to our residents – A guy with a badge says this and he looks like a police officer! Upon close inspection of the uniform and badge, it appears that our official looking “officer” is a simple security guard. And we assume that since he recommends it “to our residents”, he’s probably the security guard at a retirement home or other small community. However it is true, a motion sensor can deter break-ins, don’t be fooled into thinking this is a law-enformement endorsement.
Light Angel’s 7 LED bulbs will stay bright for 100,000 hours – This is almost certainly worded to trick you! The biggest draw back of a stick-on, battery-powered light would be having to change the batteries every few months right? But you only have to change the batteries in the Light Angel every 100,000 hours right? WRONG! “The LED bulbs will stay bright for 100,000 hours” – a true statement since LED bulbs have very long rated lifetimes. This does not mean that the batteries will not drain and need to be replaced after only a few hours of use.
You could spend a fortune on a motion sensor light and you need tools to install it – Yes, you would spend more money on a permanently installed 120vAC powered (real) motion sensor activated light. However, it would probably be far brighter and effective, will almost certainly never fall off the wall because the sticky-tape fails, and you never have to worry about the batteries being dead when you need the light the most. This might be intended to trick you into thinking that the Light Angel is just like a real, permanent motion activated light, but, it’s not.
Get two for $12.99 – PLUS S&H, plus ‘separate fee’ – Would this lead you to believe that it’s only going to be $12.99 out of your pocket to get two Light Angels? Think again! Take note of the small print: “Plus S&H” and “separate fee”. Nowhere is the cost of S&H (Shipping and handling) or “separate fee” disclosed. Be sure to know all the fees and total amount before handing over your credit card information.

why aren’t they exposed for false advertising? Isn’t there an agency that oversees this. You noticed this.
The FTC oversees TV commercials, but they rely on the public to report the commercials. The FTC does not actively look/check/seek deceptive ads. See here for more info:

As seen on TV items are all junk!
This is complete JUNK! Poor quality LED’s, it falses all the time and EATS batteries.Since LED’s project their light in a pre-focused beam…the reflector is worthless. It casts a few spots of light, not a large area like on the commercial. The “ole Brooklyn Lantern” works just as poorly. Don’t get me started on the hidden charges, the addition of things you didnt buy but are charged for and you can’t return. This same GARBAGE shows up in Walmart as well as K-Mart..so if you buy it locally, at least you can return it! DO NOT buy it online or call Telebrands…
So what is “false” about their advertisement? You’re complaining about a product that you’ve never tested and make weak assumptions and accusations based on nothing.
1. The don’t call it weather proof. They call is weather resistant. If people don’t understand English, that’s not their fault.
2. You have a problem with the statement that some lighting would help make a pool safer? Seems like a pretty basic fact that being able to see is better than not being able to see.
3. You don’t feel that motion sensors are technologically advanced? I mean…they have been around since the middle ages but come on…
Motion sensors are a product of technological advancement…FACT.
4. So you’re upset that you assumed that this guy is a police officer but only turned out to be a security guard?!?! I think this statement makes a little more sense coming from a security guard anyway, considering the fact that he said, “our residents”. He wasn’t portrayed as a police officer, you assumed he was. Not their problem.
5. You obviously haven’t tested the battery life of this product…come back when you have.
6.”You could spend a fortune on a motion sensor light”…again, true statement. If you don’t like theirs, feel free to do so.
“$12.99 plus S&H plus desperate fee” How could this possibly “mislead” you to think that the final cost is $12.99?!?!?!?!?!?! What does the word “plus” mean to you? Where is the disconnect?
I’m not sure what your agenda is, but your review is uneducated, unhelpful, unfounded and is ultimately insulting to thinking Americans. I’ll be sure to start a website called “ad review reviews” starring you and the crap you write.
Geez….
You obviously have no idea what this website is even about. This website does not review or test products and this review of the ad never said it was false advertising.
Next time you bash something at least have the brains to know what you’re bashing.
The lightAngel.com is a scam. First of all their website is constantly down. So there no way to look at the offers visibly. So I called the 800 number and it is totally automated. They take your credit card number up front and then your code, then they start by offering you additional products without any explanantion as to the handling cost or shipping costs. Each add on gets all the more crazy. What appears to be a second light offer with a lattern I turned down. Then they offered a second light but I could not determine what the handling charges were. Then they offered some monthly service for $1.00 for 30 days. It wasn’t claer what the ongoing costs were. They baited you with a $10 off the money you already committed. And you are setting yourself up for an onpoing montly service charge but no idea how much. But,they give you no idea what the service is. SCAM. There was no way to end the onslaught of offers and to stop the process. I started shouting vulgarities into phone and then they said they would send me to a person. I held for 5 minutes and then the robot said thank you for completing the offer. I had no idea what my charges would be. I quickly had to kill my credit card and get a new number issued to stop the transaction. The process they use does not allow you any recourse as they get your information up front. This is a horrible experience. They should be a called the devils light. WARNING STAY AWAY
Took my card number, phone number, and home and mailing address. I was on the phone with rep for about 25min to place an order. smells fishy if you ask me. Then a few min. later I get a call requesting the info again because there computer whipped out my order. after that I told rep to cancel the order I was mad.
These are total junk along with the company being a big ripoff. I ordered one set and they charged me for two. When I called their Customer Service number somewhere in India, the first thing they said was give it as a gift. I said no–I want you to send a Return Authorization; then the guy said–if you keep it we will only charge you 12.95. Again, I said no. Then he told me I should send it back and then they will credit my account; why should I spend money to return it–I didn’t order it. Now I am stuck with 2 orders of junk as the one I really ordered doesn’t work worth a darn. What a bunch of crooks. I think they should be banned from selling merchandise here and quite ripping people off.
so how much is shipping and handling
they advertised two of these last night
plus some other gadget ‘free’
for 12.95 total plus s&h
i never call unless they tell me the total cost up front
and not until i check out reviews online
the one they advertised last night with this name does not look like the one in the picture at top of this review
not going to buy it until i know everything and this review confused me even more !
i am still looking for a decent RELIABLE motion activated light at a modest price.
I’ve rarely seen any of these types of commercials use “false advertising”. Almost EVERY TIME, everything they say is true. You just have to pay attention and don’t be stupid.
Does this commercial lead you to believe that you will get two of these for just $12.99? Yes, if you’re stupid and not paying attention and listening to what they said….they said “PLUS SHIPPING. etc”…did you not get that?
Hidden fees? There are no hidden fees!! They simply don’t give you the AMOUNT of the fee’s during the commercial. When you call them they will tell you the amount and give you the total.
If they DIDN’T do that, then they would be hiding the fees.
Next…somebody above said that all of these types of product are junk. Well, that statement is junk in itself.
Whatever the product is…I just might have a need for it….even if it’s a cheesy item. As long as I’m smart enough to have a good idea of what to expect, then I just might want it for something.
I took one of these and connected it to an adapter, so that it runs on AC. It was simple, and it lights the area I need.
The point is….if the thing works, then use it where it works well. Then it’s worth the money.
The only people who are “stupid” are those who actually think there is no deceptive advertising going on for this over-priced junk.
1. You have to go through an automated system and give your credit card details BEFORE you get to the next step of finding out the “additional” costs
2. There ARE hidden fees. Your order will be $22.98 for ONE light
3. When you call to ask about the additional “fees”, the paid liars at the call center in India, who will use a FALSE name to TRY to deceive you into thinking you’re speaking with someone other than a person from a call center in India, will tell you it’s because you ordered the “DELUXE” Light Angel, not the “REGULAR” Light Angel.
4. There is no such thing as a “DELUXE” Light Angel.
5. Google it
6. When you ask what the difference is between the deluxe Light Angel and regular Light Angel, the paid liars will tell you all sorts of BS, like for example “It’s much brighter”, “It has more LED’s” and other such nonsense.
7. When you inform them not only is there no such thing as a Deluxe Light Angel but you did not order a Deluxe Light Angel…they’ll say YOU made an error!
8. When you ASK them “where on the website can I order a Deluxe Light Angel…they can’t tell you BECAUSE THEY DON’T EXIST. Then they MIGHT say “oh ummm well, there must be a ‘technical problem’ with the website and it just isn’t showing”, or some other such inanity that comes from the mouth of idiots at Indian call centers who assume they’re speaking/arguing to customers with single digit IQs.
This has nothing to do with how stupid you might or might not be. This has EVERYTHING to do with outright fraud and deception.
1. Claiming you ordered something you did not order to justify taking more money, albeit a few dollars IT ADDS UP.
2. Claiming a product even EXISTS which they know damn well DOES NOT exist e.g. Light Angel Deluxe.
3. Charging your card MORE than the amount agreed upon in HOPE most people will not notice, care or call them to complain about. Who knows how many people they have done this to.
4. Lying about the technical specs, saying the non- existent Deluxe Light Angel has “brighter LEDs”, “More watts”, and other CYA Indian call center type BS, in hopes of stemming the tide of calls to the FCC.
5. Lying about their names. Ok, maybe this one is just deceptive, a white lie, but it’s NOT the TRUTH.
6. “Technologically advanced motion sensor” suggests that the motion sensor technology used on the LIGHT ANGEL is MORE advanced than regular motion sensors. It is NOT suggesting that ALL motion sensors are technically advanced, otherwise the commercial script should read “motion sensors that are technologically advanced.” As it is, grammatically speaking, they’re saying the motion sensors THEY USE on the Light Angel are MORE technologically advanced than other less advanced motion sensors. There are differences in motion sensors. Some are more sensitive, have longer or wider reach etc. Theirs are not. Theirs are technologically standard motion sensors.
The light itself could be useful. All lights could be useful. It’s the ad/commercial that is deceptive. The other stuff, charging more money on your credit card, lying about products that don’t exist (Deluxe model) to justify taking more of your money etc., is criminal and should be investigated by the FCC and/or any other agency involved in protecting American consumers.
I understood the shipping and handling fee but the TV ad implied to me that for an additional shipping and handling fee I would get a 2nd Light Angel free. This is NOT the case. I ordered online. The only choices presented to me were one Light Angel (12.99) + s/h (7.99) OR to add a second Light Angel plus the lantern for 9.99. I already have a lantern so just wanted the light angel. No other choice. To me this is deceptive advertising – leads the viewer to believe that it is ‘buy one get one free’, plus the s/h cost. I’ll never order from Telebrands again – their customer service is terrible. Representatives just know how to give the same, scripted answer to anything I said.
I tried to order through one of their numerous toll free numbers. Could not talk to a live person!
After what some people have said, I am glad that the system said my card was DECLINED! That is a blessing in disguise.
Went to Walgreens, got 9 units of which only 3 worked. Had to return the bad products back to the store. The product idea is good. But the result is not good, especially if batteries have to be replaced soon especially if used indoors. The ones outdoors, wonder how long the adhesive will last! But screws can be used though!
I bought a Light Angel from Publisher’s Clearing House for 7.99. The order process did not generate a receipt or show me shipping and handling. It said I would be sent a receipt in a couple of days. Wow! That worried me so I called PCH immediately and said I wanted to cancel my order. I did not say what I had ordered so it was interesting when the clerk told me she could not find my order, but then went on to mention the Light Angel when I asked her if she could tell me how much the shipping and handling costs were. How did she know what I had ordered if she couldn’t find my order? I could have been calling to cancel a magazine order. I hung up after I couldn’t get her to cancel my order.
I called back two more times. Exact same thing happened both times with different clerks. They knew what I had ordered, but said they could not find my order to cancel it. When my order was shipped, I got an email which told me shipping and handling was more than the cost of the light. I called PCH again and they did not cancel the light, but they removed shipping and handling costs. I don’t know how this all works, but I’ve never ordered anything online where I wasn’t able to view all costs up front before it was final.
The light came and it works, but it is really cheap. I have several nice motion lights in my house; mostly at the top of staircases and in hallways. They are SYLVANIA Motion Sensor Night Lights purchased at Lowes for $12.98. Item #: 320270 | Model #: 72245 Excellent quality. I got cheap is the reason I ordered the Light Angel. I’ve learned through my mistake so that’s good. 🙂
I’ve had several contractors ask me where I got the lights. The bathroom door is right next to the top of the stairs, so these Sylvania lights give me peace of mind that the kids will not fall down the steps in the dark.
Oops…link to the Sylvania Motion Lights didn’t show up. Type SYLVANIA Motion Sensor Night Lights into Lowe’s webpage to bring them up.
Thank you JoJo2, i will go trough with your tip on Sylvania night lights i don’t mind paying a little extra for quality.
I bought 2 motion sensor lights with 3 led’s battery operated from harbor freight 3 yrs ago for about 5 bucks each maybe less. They work great. They came with built on magnet holder, screw mounts and sticky tape. I use one in my shed and one in my main bathroom. Only problem with them is of you leave them in auto mode, the batteries last maybe a week. But, for the price they are good quality and work great free what they are. As for the light angel, it’s cheaply made way over priced, probably costs 2 dollars to make and van probably buy the danger thing for 3-5 dollars at any flea market.
With shipping, a Light Angel runs around $20. I Got a small out light fixture with motion sensor and installed it for around $20. I could have had a handyman install it for $25 for a total of about $35. Check all your options for automatic lighting, a wired system may be more cost-effective than you think.
I just order one set at 4 payments at $2.99 each. why in the entry confirmation does it inform me that I still have not place an order? This email ether accepts my order or I must assume the email is faulty or a fake seeking to fool me again. Because the email at the end never complete the entry confimation so I am prevented from submitting my entry or order. I feel rooked! What’s wrong and who will help me to win again.

Peter W. DeHaan, 160 W 22nd St, Holland,MI 49423 just ordered one set of the angel lights at 4 payments of $2.99 each payment. The email I ordered this in is either faulty or fake? Why when I get to the entry confirmation does it not credit me for the one order nor ever completes the confirmation. This unfinished confirmation has happened 10 or more times. Some thing is wrong or false there?
