Mountain Dew (Mtn Dew) KickStart / Kickstart Limeade & Kickstart Black Cherry
In this commercial for Mountain Dew (now labeled as ‘Mtn Dew’) Kickstart, we see a couple of guys ‘kickstarting’ their night by drinking Mtn Dew. There is no dialog in this ad and instead we see very exciting imagery of model rockets fireworks, with music playing through the entire ad. The song played during the commercial is “Repetition” performed by The Willowz.
Words & lyrics to the song in this television ad:
I got no beef with repetition. I’m gonna see it through and through
I got no beef with repetition. I feel the same way as you do
I feel the same way as you do. I feel the same way as you do. I feel the same way as you do
Claims made in this commercial
In the last few seconds of the ad, we see the following giant text, next to the cans of Kickstart Limeade and Black Cherry:
Some people may assume that because Kickstart contains electrolytes, drinking it will help keep them hydrated or that Mountain Dew Kickstart is a sports-drink like Gatorade. However, in very difficult to read fine print, we can see the text “electrolytes for taste” which appears to indicate that there is no health or hydration benefit to drinking Mountain Dew Kickstart.
Summary of this ad:
Some people feel the use of fine-print regarding electrolytes is an intentional attempt to trick viewers into thinking that Mountain Dew Kickstart has more health benefits than it actually has.
